Treatment Approach
At Oxford Treatment Center, our remote and tranquil setting in the rolling hills of North Mississippi is a great place to begin your journey toward recovery from addiction. Our program offers personalized, evidence-based addiction treatment backed by scientific research. Guided by decades of research and data, our decisions and approaches to addiction treatment offers improved outcomes and adheres to strict best practices.
We offer various of levels of care including medical detox, inpatient, PHP, IOP and standard outpatient along with a wide range of therapies and treatment modalities. Some of our therapies include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy and motivational interviewing.
We also provide specialized programs and groups for the LBTQ+ community, first responders, pregnant women and young adults. Because of our scenic location, we also incorporate outdoor activities such as hiking and horseback riding into our therapies and utilize alternative approaches such as yoga, music and art therapy.
At our residential campus, we work to house clients with other individuals in their age range and housing is gender-specific. Clients live in cabins with 11 other people, and sleep in semi-private 2-bedroom accommodations with private bathrooms. Cabins include a TV and lounge, and onsite, clients can enjoy our on-site ropes course, frisbee golf, labyrinth, gym, sand volleyball court and more.
Meet the Staff

Dr. Jerri Avery holds a Ph.D. in public policy and administration from Jackson State University. With over 24 years of experience, she has directed programs and conducted research on mental health promotion, drug treatment initiatives, and drug prevention. Dr. Avery served as Director of the Mississippi Department of Mental Health’s Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Services prior to becoming Oxford’s clinical director.

Mary Smith’s experience in addiction recovery includes working as a clinical assistant, family program counselor and admissions officer, and a volunteer with the 23rd Judicial District Drug Court in Dickson County, Tenn. Her experience also includes managing female-only sober-living homes.

Barry Doughty supervises residential treatment programs for adults ages 26 and older. In his more than 10 years of experience in the addiction field, he has worked as an aftercare/outreach counselor with direct services and taught addiction education. He specializes in motivational interviewing as an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and works to facilitate patient-centered change.
For Families
If the patient consents, therapists can keep family members updated on the patient’s progress and provide addiction education opportunities for their loved ones to attend. Every other weekend on Fridays and Saturdays, Oxford hosts family programming from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendance must be approved by a patient’s counselor before visitation. Family counseling is available upon request.
Family visits are only permitted once a patient has completed detox or have been at the facility for at least 72 hours. Visits occur each Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and must be pre-approved by the treatment team.
